IT WAS HERE THAT THE FAMOUS YET SAD AND BLOODY WAR OF KALINGA WAS FOUGHT.ASHOKA BUILT MANY CHAITYAS, STUPAS AND PILLARS HERE.HE TURNED INTO A FOLLOWER OF BUDDHA AFTER HE REALIZED THE MISTAKE HE HAD DONE IN FIGHTING THE WAR. APPARENTLY A TOOTH OF BUDDHA IS ALSO KEPT HERE IN A CASKET. |

I like things like sculptures and carvings because they can tell us a lot about culture, history etc. Yesterday only we went to National Museum (I hope the spelling's right) and we saw all sorts of historical things like Mughal Paintings and sculptures and carvings and armour and old jewellery and evolution of alphabets in Tamil, Bengali and Hindi. These pics interest me a lot. Thanks for sharing!! :)
